There are countless articles on the web regarding converting your storage building into living space. You're able to find tons of video and tips on the subject with a quick google search.
We thought we would share what we have learned over our 13 years in the business as a first step. Literally hundreds of our customers have done this and have shared their top 5 tips:
1. The fewer walls the better. If you're a couple, they suggest walling off a bathroom and nothing else. The open floor plan will feel more roomy.
2. Wiring. We are often asked about prewiring the building. Generally, this is not recommended until the unit is on site. You're going to need a licensed electrcian on site anyway to connect a live wire to the building after delivery, it's best to have the same electrican wire the inside to you specs. You may need a 220 circuit for a stove, you may need larger breakers than the factory installs, you may need to rewire circuits to suit the load. All of these are good reasons to have this done all at the same time, by the same electrician. It costs less this way as well.
3. Plumb around the perimiter. Installing plumbing along the outside walls enables the building to set lower. Not only does this make the plumbing easier, it enable the delivery crew to set it lower to the ground which will help with freeze protection in the colder months.
4. Consider skipping the porch. We all love how the various porches look, but they cost you interior square footage. A lof our customers recommend skipping the porch and instead adding a covered deck after delivery.
5.
